With everything going on right now it’s more important than ever that we stay connected and carry on talking about mental health. To help start conversations, our volunteer Angela has written some great poetry on the current COVID-19 lockdown, and the impact it’s having on our wellbeing.
I woke up today with a feeling of dread,
Do I even get up or get out of bed?
With nowhere to go and nothing to do,
Makes me feel sick… how about you?
LOCKDOWN… We all knew it must come,
Photos of Brits all packed in the sun,
“Social distancing” far from their mind,
Taking a risk of wiping out mankind.
Some of us will spend this time all alone,
Our lifeline becoming the telephone,
No contact with family or even a friend,
“Not essential? Don’t go!” is the message it sends.
Keep in perspective what’s really going on,
This lockdown really won’t be for too long,
We’re not going to war, being sent out to die,
We’ve to stay in and be safe to keep us alive!
Pray for the “keyworkers” given no choice,
If you won’t listen to Boris then please hear their voice,
At risk and in tears, down on their knees,
“Please stay at home” is the message they plead.
In a world so uncertain of course we are scared,
Never been here before so all unprepared,
Employment and incomes put on a hold,
We need the government to be clear and be bold.
Our moods will be tested, emotions run high,
Kids drive you crazy as you break down and cry,
Our worlds transfer to meetings online,
Adapt with this world and just give it time.
Day one of lockdown and I’m feeling quite sane,
A few weeks from now we know that could change,
Be safe my friends and at the end of each day,
Be thankful and always remember to pray.
